Schools Closed November 9th-13th
November 8, 2020
Dear Members of the New London Public Schools Community,
Although COVID-19 contact tracing efforts continued throughout the weekend, regarding our recent positive cases identified Thursday night, more time is needed to ensure that we have a confident picture of all close contacts between students involved. Therefore, we are unable to open the district to any in-person student learning this week. NLPS will be closed to all in-person student learning the week of November 9th through 13th. ALL STUDENTS will participate in full-time Distance Learning.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are full-day, student instructional days. (Remember Wednesday, November 11th is a no school holiday in honor of Veteran’s Day.) The expectation is that full-time teaching and learning will occur. Middle School and High School students should follow their regular schedules. Students will be expected to login, following their regular schedules, as if they were in school.
All elementary students participating in the Hybrid Model of learning will have live teaching via Microsoft TEAMS daily, along with their assigned work posted on SeeSaw. Teachers will be in touch through SeeSaw and Teams to let families know when the meeting times will occurand will continue to be in touch with elementary students and their families regularly throughout the week.
Additionally, due to the circumstances, sports cannot occur this week. Updates to end of season activities will be shared later this week with each team.
Food Services: Food distribution will be available throughout the week according to the schedule below:
- Monday, November 9th: Students in Cohort A & B may pick up meals from their individual schools between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- Thursday, November 12th: Distance Learners and students in Cohort B may pick up meals from their individual schools between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
- The amount of food provided on these days will be enough for the duration of the school closure.
Mental Health Supports: Thank you for your flexibility and support as we continue to respond to health data and circumstances. The safety of all continue to be our utmost priority, as does excellence in all our educational programs. We are blessed to have great employees throughout the district who continue to be available to serve you. All support staff will be working full-time throughout the week, too. This team of Central Office and building-based administrators, guidance counselors, social workers, psychologists, wellness interventionists, wellness managers, and Human Resource staff are incredible assets to our district, offering differentiated supports for all students, staff, and families. Social- emotional support is equally as important to health and academics. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us or for mental health supports. Please click here for district support staff contact information.
COVID-Data: As a reminder, all our district’s data is reported to the state and DPH weekly. It is also reviewed regularly with our health advisor and with health leaders at Ledge Light Health District. We are grateful for their guidance and partnership as we analyze each situation carefully and respond to it. The link below highlights this information. This live data base is updated weekly.
Additionally, I remind everyone of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Please continue to always wear a mask, socially distance from others, frequently wash your hands and cover all coughs and sneezes. If a student or staff member is not feeling good, we ask that you do not come to school and, instead, seek guidance from a medical doctor. We have School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) that are a part of our district. If you need medical advice, please do not hesitate to call one our SBHCs at
(860) 437-4555. Please continue to take advantage of free COVID-19 testing as well. Sites are found throughout the New London community.
Thank you for continuing to support our collective efforts during these challenging times.
