NLPS COVID-19 Masking Update
Good morning, NLPS community. Governor Lamont’s state-wide mask mandate, requiring all to wear masks when inside PreK-12 school buildings, will expire on Monday, February 28th. The Board of Education continued discussion regarding this topic last night.
Starting next Monday, New London Public Schools will transition to strongly recommending masks be worn by all when inside schools and district buildings. In addition to strongly recommending the continued use of universal masking when in school buildings, NLPS highlights additional COVID-19 mitigation measures to be used regularly. These include staying home when sick, getting vaccinated, testing for COVID-19 (if known exposure or symptoms exist), frequent hand washing, hand sanitizing, and cleaning of high touch places, and socially distancing to the best extent possible. The district is able to continue to provide masks, COVID-19 testing kits, other PPE tools (face masks, gowns, desk shields) to those who request such. In addition, NLPS will continue to work closely with its local health providers to host additional vaccine clinics in schools and advertise other opportunities, for vaccinations and testing sites, throughout the community.
The attached document outlines additional tools and resources, as well as shared expectations for outbreak responses, as we continue to navigate COVID-19. Daily COVID-19 communications will continue to be shared to keep all informed of our district’s data and necessary responses.
Additionally, please note that wearing masks on buses, and when riding any form of public transportation, is a federal mandate that still remains.
I thank the entire school community for their continued dedication, flexibility, and responsible actions that will keep everyone safe, as all continue to navigate the COVID-19 health pandemic.
Let’s continue to Unite in Excellence.
