COVID-19 Protocol Updates
Dear NLPS Families and Staff,
In the week before Thanksgiving as well as the two weeks after Thanksgiving, NLPS was informed of over 24 positive cases of COVID-19 impacting members of our school community. As reported in the Superintendent’s weekly updates on the district website and through her “all staff” communications, contact tracing was completed and all individuals who were impacted were notified. Those impacted will follow existing isolation / quarantine protocols for COVID-positive individuals and close contacts, as it pertains to each person’s circumstance.
As the infection rates on a local, state, and national level grow, and with the introduction of new variants, it is important to reaffirm our commitment to mask wearing and physical distancing. As you may recall from some of the more concerning periods last school year, our most effective tool was universal masking when indoors supported by physical distancing. Additionally, vaccinations against COVID-19 are now available. Everyone who is now 5 years of age and older is now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination. The CDC and public health entities strongly encourage that all who are eligible get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
Please join us in reasserting our expectations for students regarding proper masking and physical distancing. While our students have been good about these rules, it is easy to become lax as this requirement extends. Please continue to remind your student(s) of the necessity of universal masking indoors and appropriate physical distancing when feasible and as staff, model these behaviors for your students.
As we have learned, nothing will eliminate the spread of disease, but there are tactics that we can utilize to limit the spread during these months that we tend to spend more time indoors.
Thank you for your partnership in reducing the spread of this virus. Please stay safe.
