We have included some online resources to help you and your child access resources to help your student. Feel free to contact our department if you have any questions. We miss your student and look forward to seeing them back at school.

Week of June 15th - June 19th

Updates for ESL/Bilingual/World Language Webpage:

    • Testing for the Seal of Bi-literacy will be offered to students. Students who are Bilingual and Biliterate are encouraged to participate.
    • Teachers continue meeting with Grade-level teams and are adjusting and differentiating for students as needed. 
    • The department reviewed a draft of the Monitoring Form to track the progress of exited students. 
    • Teachers at the elementary level have been learning about and exploring the use of Screencastify to support instruction.
    • Teachers have been sharing ideas and researching ways to support ELs through distance learning. Key considerations and other resources have been shared. 
    • ESL/Bilingual Tutors across the district continue to make contact with families and support students with academics.

Spanish at BDJMS 

    • Informal proficiency assessment to all students within the first 2 weeks of class (Nov 19-Nov 27)
    • Mixed proficiency within each class; from beginner to intermediate.
    • Students engaged on activities that built (beginners) and expanded(intermediate) their vocabulary: team setup, brainstorm ideas on both languages, procure visuals, and organize and display information. Students organized their own teams as to support each other's levels.

Spanish through Google Classroom 

    • Google Classroom: selected as learning platform.
    • Start date: April 6, 2020
    • % of registered users at start date: 82%
    • % of registered users by end date: 96%
    • Registered users' online work weekly completion (avg): 55%
