International Baccalaureate (IB)
Imagine a worldwide community of schools, educators, and students with a shared mission to empower young people with the values, knowledge and skills to create a better and more peaceful world. This is the International Baccalaureate (IB).
IB programs aim to provide an education that enables students to make sense of the complexities of the world around them, as well as equipping them with the skills and dispositions needed for taking responsible action for the future. They provide an education that crosses disciplinary, cultural, national, and geographical boundaries, and that champions critical engagement, stimulating ideas and meaningful relationships.
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through four foundational and interrelated elements that are central to all IB programs. These include International-Mindedness, the IB Learner Profile, a broad, balanced, conceptual, and connected curriculum, and standard approaches to teaching and learning.
The International Education Pathway within New London Public Schools has committed to developing world-class IB programs at three of our locations: The Primary Years Program (PYP) at C.B. Jennings International Elementary Magnet School, the Middle Years Program (MYP) stretched between the Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School at the New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus, and the Diploma Program (DP) and Career-related Program (CP) at the New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus.
Currently, C.B. Jennings International Elementary Magnet School and Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School are official Candidate Schools within the International Baccalaureate Organization seeking authorization to officially offer IB Programming at their respective locations. New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus has future plans to offer the Diploma Program (DP) and Careers-related Program (CP).
Please see below for more information regarding each specific IB Program and check out our resource section for more information, FAQ’s and presentations.

C.B. Jennings International Elementary Magnet School Candidate School for IB Authorization
The PYP curriculum is a student-centered approach to education for children aged 3-12. The framework begins with the premise that students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process. It prioritizes people and their relationships to build a strong learning community.
PYP students use their initiative to take responsibility and ownership of their learning. By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, PYP students develop knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills and the attributes of the IB learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities and beyond.
