Morning Recess 

TIME: 8-9 am  

Students are invited to start their day in Mrs. Sherman-Watson’s room. 

Transportation NOT provided.   

 Register your child on his or her cohort days to socialize and play with toys indoors for now, and outdoors when the weather is pleasant.

Grades 3-5 have the option to meet from 8am - 9am with Mr.Lyons on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  

The morning enrichment program in our room is proving to be a success. We have only had one student, who has consistently come in, and another who has just begun this week. We hope to see more students soon. Our program is learning with fun. One activity is using the play tunnel where at one side we will give the student a picture or word, he will crawl through the tunnel, and match it to the corresponding word at the other end. The words are CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words that are integral to the grade level work for our kindergarten children. Our higher-level student is working on snap circuits, which is a fun learning activity about electronics. The student who has been coming in from inception has also shown an enthusiasm in community service, such as handing out the snacks in the morning, saying good morning, and saying you’re welcome when told thank you while maintaining eye contact. The student creates a circuit from a diagram with a power source, wiring, and lighting/sound that is regulated with a resistor and enjoys the result. The parent of the first student reported that her child’s behaviors have been improving at home. In the classroom, our team has seen improvement as well in the student’s social skills. The enrichment program is more than academic. Our children’s education requires social skills enhancement as well as reading, writing, and arithmetic. The enhancements to the student may seem small, however, they add up to a well-rounded individual, which, to any educator, is huge!
