| In second grade,we
have been working hard to improve our reading and writing
skills. In math, we practiced extra hard on estimation, expanded
notation, rounding up to the nearest 10, time, money, and
adding and subtracting that involves borrowing or carrying
into the next column. In science we are finishing up on the
five food groups and nutrition unit. We will be starting life
cycles of plants when we get back from April vacation. Also
in science, we will be visiting the Mystic Aquarium and the
Mystic Aquarium Educational Staff will visit the Harbor School
sometime in May and June. Further details on the trips will
be given at a later date. The focus is on the Long Island
Sound and how the Ct river (fresh water) empties into The
Long Island Sound (salt water). We learn about estuaries,
animals, plants and minerals which live there. Also, 10 children
were selected in Mrs. Mann's class to enter a poster contest
for the Long Island Sound. Good luck to those students and
hopefully they might be a finalist or even a first place winner!
This extends our knowledge we already studied in our new reading
program which included the theme of camouflage. This is an
excellent program, and if you would like to be involved or
chaperone please contact your child's teacher.
