What is a Middle School?

Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School is a special place for students who are growing from childhood to adolescence. This is a unique period in your life and only a unique school will do. Think of Jackson as a bridge taking you from one level to another while doing something special for you along the way.

You are changing physically, mentally and socially. This is the age of the "growth spurt" and your mind is growing from childlike to adult in how you think. Your peer group is a very important part of your life. You are driven by a tremendous need for independence and autonomy. This is a time for exploration and experimentation to discover your interests and develop your talents.

The process of growing up is not always easy. Middle School makes it less difficult. You will have the understanding and support you need from a dedicated staff combined with a good middle school program. This teams at each level allow teachers and students to get to know each other well. When it comes to extra-curricular things like athletics, clubs, and other special activites, the middle school has its own way. Middle Schools don't require that everyone do everything. In the Middle School everyone who wants to be involved can be. Interested participation is the key.

Bennie Dover Jackson is your middle school. Here there are teachers involved with their students, working closely with other teachers to produce a basic but exciting curriculum with room for you to explore and experiment, to improve your skills, to grow and to learn. At Bennie Dover Jackson, the school day schedule, the layout of the building, the grouping of students, and the teaching is organized to fit teacher and student needs. Everyone at Jackson Middle School believes it is a good place to be.
