Praying Mantis located in the center of the logo. It represents the primary animal style of Kung Fu that is taught in our school. The students are learning forms and techniques from the 7 Star Praying Mantis system, a northern shaolin based style of martial arts.

Dalu Circle are the surrounding blocks in the shape of an octagon. Solid lines represents hard/fire. Broken lines represent soft/water. The Dalu Circle is utilized in practicing footwork and techniques. It is commonly mistaken for the octagon circle found in the I-Ching (Book of Changes) or in Chinese religion (for warding of spirits). The setup of the block lines in our logo are different. They are actually a training diagram.

Yin & Yang It represents opposites and balance. It implies that all hard has soft, and all soft has hard. One is needed for the other to exist. Despite what some people may believe, Yin & Yang is not a religious symbol.

Chinese characters found on the black side of the Yin & Yang. These characters are called "Pin Yin". They read "Bu Luo Kai" which is the Head Instructors name in chinese. The translation was provided by the exchange Teacher the New London Public School system is hosting from mainland China (Anjun Ren). Anjun Ren is not only an educator for the school system who is teaching Chinese to kids, but she is also a member/student in the N.L.P.S. Martial Arts Taijiquan class.

Logos inside the Dots of the Yin Yang represent the two other styles of martial arts that are taught in this school. The white dot has a snake and crane for Taijiquan (Tai Chi). The black dot has the Okinawa star like symbol. This is for the Shorin-ryu Karate.

The inside meaning is that regardless of the class a member attends, we are all one school and play a roll in each others lives. Therefore we share the Yin & Yang symbol in our logo to represent that we balance and complete each other.

The Logo is surrounded by the names of each style taught at NLPS Martial Arts along with our slogan "Shaping the soul through the body and mind."
